In the beginning

In 2015, a banking and insurance giant in San Antonio, Texas, offered me a director-level role — the highest I'd reached in my career. The move from small-town Ohio was intimidating but exciting and significantly altered my worldview. Living in this multicultural city opened my eyes to various cultures, languages, customs, and cuisines. Although I've grown to love Texas, my wife and I intend to spend our retirement in her native Tokyo. This experience has taught me how embracing change can remarkably broaden your perspective and enrich your life.

Corporate Leap

The Dayton, Ohio-based Gold Heart Quilters (GHQ) began its mission in 2018 to give love to individuals in need through the warmth of a quilt. It is a 501(c)(3) organization that makes quilts for distribution to charities, hospitals, multiple organizations, and community outreach events. https://www.goldheartquilters.com

In our quest to find a meaningful name for our company, we embarked on a search that drew inspiration from a variety of sources. Among these, our exploration of endangered species around the world led us to the Hoolock Gibbon. This remarkable creature resonated with us on multiple levels, and for good reason. Not only is it an endangered species, but it also holds a personal significance that captured our hearts. 
What made the Hoolock Gibbon even more special was the existence of a specific type known as the Skywalker Hoolock Gibbon, which sparked our interest due to our shared passion for Star Wars. This unique connection added an extra layer of significance to our choice of company name.

Growing up in the 1980s, the local video arcade was a favorite destination for my friends and me. We’d stuff our pockets with quarters from our weekly allowances – or from the money we earned from paper routes or cutting neighbors’ lawns – and pump them into Space Invaders, Pac-Man and many other titles.
