Ohio State is synonymous with football. October 6–8 marks the 111th year of the celebration of Homecoming as the Buckeyes face off against the Maryland Terrapins. Homecoming officially began as an idea of OSU professor and Alumni George Rightmire in 1912. The first Homecoming was called "Ohio State Day" as an event before a football game.
